Sharing Kemnals Learning And Success

Since 2002 John Atkins and his team have proactively sought opportunities to collaborate with other schools. Engaging the education system leadership in order to share learning and advance opportunities to deploy the Kemnal model has also been a priority. This mission has been strengthened by John’s appointment as an NCSL National Leader of Education and Kemnal’s designation as an NCSL National Support School and a TDA Training School (focused on leadership and modernization).
In 2007-’08 the process of engagement and support to other schools (in special measures or notice to improve) was built into a formal Outreach Programme sponsored by the DCSF and SSAT. (In 2008 the governors at Kemnal accepted, after a process of consultation, a recommendation from John Atkins to form the Kemnal Trust. John is now CEO of the Kemnal Trust, which has been acquired by three other schools two of which the Kemnal leadership team managed out of special measures (See info about the three schools on this website under ‘The Kemnal Trust’)

The table below summarises, from various perspectives, the success of the outreach programme (on behalf of the SSAT) for approximately 50 schools in 2007 – 2009.

The stories of the Kemnal Outreach programme and the recovery from special measure of Debden Park High and Welling schools are captured in case studies.
